Report- Eid Al Fitr and 11^th Annual Prize distribution function on Friday 09 October

Memon Community in the UAE held on Friday 9^th October 2009 an event to celebrate Eid al Fitr get together and 11^th Annual Prize distribution to successful children. Community members their families and children attended in large number. .Children of the community who excelled in their annual examination this academic year 2008/2009 were congratulated and felicitated.  

 His Excellency Khursheed Ahmed Junejo the Ambassador of Pakistan to the UAE graced the event and distributed the prize to the students who excelled in their annual examination this year 2009.

Haji Abdul Razzak Yaqoob the President of the Community in the UAE had been out of the country and therefore could not attend the function. Mr. Aboobaker Cassim the Senior Vice President of the Community and a founder member and a Trustee of World Memon Organization presided over the event. Also present were a Trustee and several Life Members of the WMO.  

Mohammad Imran Nooruddin who completed hifzul Qur’an received a special prize including free Umrah package by road sponsored by Al Hashemi Umrah & Hajj. 

Of 270 results that were received on or before specified date of 30 September 2009; 31 reports were not accepted as those did not meet the criteria stipulated by the Committee. 131 Girls and 107 boys were selected to receive prize for the excellent results in final examinations held this academic year 2008/2009 Over 1.100 attendees applauded the children who were very happy receiving the deserved prize for their hard and dedicated efforts. Details of class wise students appear at the end of this report.  

Mr. Iqbal Dawood compeered the proceedings that commenced with verses from the Holy Qur'an recited by Child Mohammed Saad Sadik and their translation in Urdu were presented by Ayman Iqbal Shivani. Recitation was followed by Nat-e-Rasool SAW. Then U.A.E.’s national anthem was played and all attendees stood on their feet to exhibit their respect. Mr. Iqbal extended welcome to the Chief Guest and members of the community present at the function. 

The Chief Guest His Excellency Khursheed Ahmed Junejo in his brief address commended the role played by Memon Community in business, industry and welfare work in various countries. He congratulated the successful children for achieving excellent results and felicitated the parents who should be proud of performance of their children. He observed that the event seems like a ceremony within a family and that he was impressed by the brotherhood and unity exhibited by community members. He assured the community his full support and co-operation.

Earlier in his address Mr. Aboobaker Cassim welcomed the Ambassador and members of the Community who attended the event in large number.  He wished Eid Mubarak to all attendees and congratulated students on their success in examination this year. He requested members to make it convenient to reach the venue early so as event could start on time. He said that in winter the day gets shorter and evening falls early so it should not be difficult to reach the venue on time.  

Following the presidential address Mr. Abdul Ghaffar Fancy General Secretary welcomed the guests, members of the community and children who were present at the even.  He expressed his thanks to all for their continued support and cooperation.  He felicitated members on Eid-al Fitr that was blessed by Allah Subhanahu after the completion of the blessed month of Ramadhan, and he congratulated Hafiz-ul Qur'an and other students for their excellence in the final examinations. 

Condolences and Dua’s were offered on sad demise of certain members that had come to the knowledge of the Committee. Committee convey condolence message to bereaved family members immediately it comes to know of sad demise. Amongst those who passed away included Haji Suleman Haji Ayub Bhiwandiwala who remained President of the Memon & Education Welfare Society India for several years. His services towards education had been commendable. 

The Chief Guest and attendees were informed that members of the Memon community are spread in several countries of the globe. Memons are living in India, Africa, Pakistan Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Australia, UK, USA and other countries including Russia and Indonesia. He explained that basically Memon community is peace loving and being engaged in business, industry and other trade related activities make fair contribution towards economy development of the country they live in. Memon Community also remains active and in co-ordination with the government agencies and other communities joins to help and provide assistance to needy people who unfortunately might have fallen victim to natural calamities such as earthquake, flood or Tsunami etc. Community always remains forefront in all human welfare activities.  

While felicitating the children and their parents on successful achievements it was explained that main objective of holding the annual event is to appreciate the efforts of those children who with their hard work, serious efforts and dedication achieved the excellence in their examinations. He said such events motivate other children to concentrate on their studies and work harder to achieve better marks and in next examination.  

Eid al Fitr had just passed 2 weeks ago the present event was a combined one of celebrating Eid and holding 11th Annual Prize distribution event. Coming 2 years the similar course may continue as both Eid and last days of receiving results may not be far from each other.  

It was very pleasing the event of Education Prize Distribution has been held and organized for the past 10 years consistently without a break.  

Thanks and gratitude  were extended to  Mr. Iqbal Polani of Al Hashemi for Hajj & Umrah who presented voucher for free Umrah by road to Hafiz-ul Qur'an, Pakistan Association Dubai and its officials for providing venue despite works on construction of building in progress and other facilities, Champion Neon (M. Shabbir Merchant) for arranging to have fixed 2 large neon signage that brightened the venue, Allana Group of Companies (Mr. Iqbal Usman) for arranging delicious Ice Crème enjoyed by the members/children, Thanks were also expressed to other individual donors for gift items presented to Hafiz-ul Qur'an, cash contributions, help, encouragement, support and co-operation.  

Thanks were expressed to members of the Organizing Committee for the hard work and efforts they put in to make event successful.  

Following the prize distribution dinner was served. Members of the community present expressed their pleasure and appreciation for organizing the event that provided them platform for interaction, extending each other greetings and exchanging views and news.
